NORWICH MGOC MEMORIAL RUN 7 September 2008 Five cars attended this ever popular run, two of them celebrating birthdays.. The start was at Norwich Airport with an optional tour of the KLM facilities, and of course the bacon buttie. Although the weather was a bit damp at times, with some half flooded roads, the well chosen route made it a really good day out. The lunch stop was at the picture postcard village of Heydon where the sun came out and we had a birthday picnic. The finish venue was Snetterton where a classic bike racing meeting was in progress. The Eastern Evening News photographer was at the start and there was an article in the 8th September edition, from which the photograph below is taken (our thanks to Archant for the copy). A Messerschmitt and guess who??? ICENI BBQ - 20th July 2008 On Sunday 20th July we held our annual BBQ at Elveden Estates. 29 members enjoyed a short run organised by Alan & Shirley that involved stopping to pick apples from a tree!!!
Elveden provided a superb BBQ meal that we all enjoyed and we had invited Grant Elliot, the Treasurer of Headway, so that we could present a cheque for £2,250 to him as proceeds from the Boadicea Run.
Although the weather was not at it's best we all enjoyed the afternoon and the dogs had a good run!
BOADICEA 2008 - 11th May 2008 We were very pleased to have an entry list of 117 cars to take part in this Years Run, with a well thought out route of approximately 100 miles on offer,
starting again from the Elveden
Estate Complex just off the A11 road. of taking a shorter route if desired, which still led to the same destination as the longer way to Clare Country Park and a stop for a lunch break, many took advantage to rest in the shade by the river here. The weather really
was excellent and sun hats were
much in evidence. several of South Suffolk’s prettiest villages with the chance to stop on Long Melford Green before ending section 3 at Lavenham famed for its timber framed houses and fine Church. On leaving here the run headed east for a while, finally heading north again through Kings Forest and return to Elveden for the finish, with time to check if raffle prizes had been won and sample
the BBQ. proceeds from this event will be donated to West Suffolk Headway, a local

Just a quick e-mail to say how much we enjoyed the Boadicea Run last Sunday, the display of cars that turned out was great to see, and meeting other fellow drivers was great, especially for me, getting the chance to talk to 2 other Magnette Owners! The full route was also very enjoyable, and we got the chance to sample several weak half pints of shandy along the route which for us came out at a mileage reading of 145 miles!!! We also liked the raffle prizes. Yours Safety Fast.
Just a quick note to thank you for organising such an enjoyable day out yesterday. The route was a very good choice and very suitable for the event I thought, it went through some very pretty parts of Suffolk in particular, some nice lanes and a minimum
of main roads - well done. is a super place to start and finish. All in all a great day out. Thanks once again to
you and all the team responsible,
I hope you made a good sum for Headway.
Just wanted to thank you and the Iceni team for such a good run on Sunday. We thoroughly enjoyed the route which was extremely pretty and made even more enjoyable because of the weather. Herbie, the Cocker Spaniel pup, also enjoyed his first ever MG run and meeting loads of friendly MG people.
Just wanted to drop you a short note to say thank you for the wonderful day on Sunday 11th May. The route was well planned and took us through some parts of the countryside that we had not seen before. Must have taken a lot of planning and organisation. The weather certainly helped. Thank you again See you next year

Eight of our members travelled to
Woburn for the Bedford MGOC 6th Bunyan Run on Sunday 6th June.
Woburn Abbey did provide a superb setting for the start / finish
venue for this event. We enjoyed the route through the
Bedfordshire countryside, also our picnic in the park on our
return. I was very chuffed to win a set of Castrol Oil Jugs in
the raffle. Congratulations to Maggie Goodchild and the members
of the Bedford MGOC for this excellent event. 30 June 2007

We began May with another good
evening run organised by Tony and Jackie, the members met at
West Stow Country Park at 7.00pm, and set off on a mystery tour
of the countryside. It was good to see John and Gillian on this
run with their new MGB Roadster. The run finished up at Troston
Bull for the usual meal and mardle.
BOADICEA 2007 - 20th May 2007 What a fantastic day!! The weather was superb, hot and sunny even at early morning and the clouds did not arrive until late in the day. 85 cars took part and the feedback so far is that everyone enjoyed the start/finish venue and the run. Our thanks to all who helped make this such a wonderful day, the willing band of helpers, Elveden Estates staff, sponsors, and in particular all the entrants. It looks as though we will be able to make a significant donation to our chosen charity, West Suffolk Headway, more details later.

Report Letter received from Newmarket Cats Newmarket Cats - registered charity 1089460 It was such a fantastic surprise to receive your letter and the wonderful donation of £111.50 from the Iceni MG Car Club. We are still working very hard as a small rescue group - and have just rescued a beautiful silver tabby mother cat (Winny) and her four babies from a garden in Mildenhall. We had a similar rescue a few weeks ago, with Poppy and her three babies from a garden in Snailwell. We undertook a massive rescue earlier in the year, but we ar finding some wonderful homes - even though sometimes we have to wait until we are sure we have found the perfect home. We are at present caring for around 30 cats and kittens in and around the Newmarket area, and now we have fosterers, including myself. Every year is different, each with its own challenges, but always with the same aim - which is to help wherever we can in all the different and difficult circumstances our little charges find themselves, through no fault of their own. Thank you again for your kindness and warmest greetings to you all at the MG Car Club with best wishes Yours sincerely Jancis Harvey 14th Sept 2006 - Extra Events for 2006

ANNUAL BBQ 6TH AUGUST 2006 Our annual BBQ was another resounding success. 31 members enjoyed a 50 mile drive through some of the prettiest parts of Suffolk south of Bury St Edmunds, a delightful mixture of small winding roads and more open ‘B’ roads through rolling fields and picturesque towns. The BBQ venue was the the Six Bells at Felsham. Sue and Roger organised 2 quizzes and we were treated to a good spread followed by a piece of Shirley’s birthday cake. The weather was so good we were able to sit outside in the sun until darkness prompted it was time to head home. A most enjoyable day. Many thanks to Virginia and David for organising another terrific event. The MGs + 2 Mazdas The BBQ and Shirley’s cake Click on the pictures to enlarge 4th August 2006

Helmingham Hall in Suffolk stage a Clasisc Car event
each year and it is to be on 6th August this year. There
are various admission prices depending on what you want,
from basic at £0 if pre booked to £20.00 for cream teas
and 'premier' parking but by just turning up on the day
you pay £7.00 per person. All proceeds go to charity so
it is a worthwhile event. I know some areas already

I have received the following from Tony Davis:-
Dear members We ended 2005 with two good events, the Christmas get-together at Peggottys was very enjoyable evening and although I was forced to cancel the Post Christmas Run because of bad weather we still enjoyed a very nice meal and quiz at The Three Kings, Fornham I hope to use the route for the Post Christmas Run on another occasion but have as yet not decided on a date. It may be in February but I will keep you posted. Another date to be arranged is the Annual Dinner again I will keep you posted
The AGM will take place on 7`h March at the
Flying Fortress, please be there 7 30 for 8pm start. Regards Tony Davis P .S. Don't forget the AGM, have a say in what happens in your club!
Dear Tony A Happy New Year to you. There are a few items for your thoughts for the coming year Firstly Nigel Hedges of the Southern Region is pushing his weekend away for all UK areas. It is at Cricket St Thomas, Somerset on the weekend 12/15th May. Several members from Eastern England are booked to go. Nigel has asked that I ensure everybody knows about this weekend which is advertised on page 53 of the January 2006 edition of Enjoying MG. Second, if we are to hold another Regional event this year at Rougham Airfield, the organisers there have asked that we attend their Wings Wheels and Steam Country Fair on the weekend of 24th /25th June. Overnight camping is available to driver and one passenger per car if attending on both days which the organisers are pressing us to do. I am aware most people do not want to go to these events for two days but we may be able to offer something for the (unpopular) Saturday. This does not stop us attending the Air Display weekend in August but as this is very popular we cannot be guaranteed a space of our own. We are welcome back for the October event as per 2005. Please let me know if your group can make the June dates provided it does not clash with any other events. Once I have heard I will contact Rougham for more details. Third, It has been suggested that each of the 9 areas in Eastern England could organise one event at a place of interest( local to them to which all the other areas would be invited. As a result the Cambridge area have already invited all areas to attend their ‘Picnic' at Wimpole Hall on 11th June. Please pass this on to your members and again let me know if a) you can arrange a group meeting and b)if you can make Wimpole Hall . Hopefully we can all get together this year sometime. Yours sincerely Peter Thomas

Just a reminder about the Christmas Get Together at Peggotty's on Tuesday 6th December. The time is 7.30 for 8, and Tony has parking for about 10 cars in his yard. The club has had to pay a deposit of £10 per person and it is therefore important that all those who have said they are coming, do in fact turn up. 12th November 2005
Tony has received the following letter from Peter Thomas the MGOC Eastern Area Regional Secretary:- After our first Regional Meeting at Rougham Airfield in October, to which 5 areas attended, including several members from Iceni, I am planning to have another similar meeting at that location next year. Currently I am in discussion with the organisers to see which of the 3 events they hold each year where classic cars are present would be the best for both them and us. The 3 weekends are: 24/25th June Wings, Wheels & Steam country fair 19/20th August Rougham Air Display which incorporates the British Sports Car weekend 30 Sept/ 1st Oct. Ploughs to Propellers 1940's weekend. On paper the event in August would appear to suit us best but this is a popular event and the organisers cannot guarantee we would have a suitable area. However, I am talking to them about this. The organisers have written to me thanking us for attending in October and saying how much we were appreciated on the day. Hopefully this will assist me in my negotiations! In the meantime would you all incorporate these 3 weekend in your plans for next year on a provisional basis until I can confirm which one will be our main event. Some areas may like to attend all 3 events Many thanks Peter Thomas 7th September 2005 Our final evening run of the year took place last night. As usual Alan and Shirley did us proud with an excellent run and venue. This was a new location for us and I am sure it will become one of our regulars. A draw was organised by Shirley and Virginia with the prizes going to the right people. Thanks Alan and Shirley. I would have thought that Virginia was attractive enough to get all the attention she needs without trying to blow up her engine. During the evening our secretary Tony Davis announced some events for the Autumn as follows:-
Saturday 2nd October
Tuesday 4th October
16th October
Tuesday 6th December
29th December
5th August 2005 The following letter has been received from Newmarket Cats. Dear Chris. What a wonderful surprise to receive your cheque this morning for £75 from the Iceni MG Owners Club. Thank you so much - l have just phoned Sue, she is over the moon - and we have talked over the possibility of purchasing an incubator for her premature kittens. This will start us on the project. We are holding our annual garden party in aid of Newmarket Cats, to celebrate our fourth birthday - at 24 Edgeborough Close, Kentford - on Saturday 13th August from 2 pm - 6 pm. We have our usual and interesting array of tombolas, plus refreshments, including teas, coffees, home made cakes, summer spritzers and a chance to catch up with friends from the group, and a few ferals, if you can find them. Admission donation on the door to include all refreshments is £2. Do hope to see you and thank you as always for your loyal and most appreciated support. As with all events in Kentford, this is strictly an adults only occasion, due to the nervous cats on the premises and the smallness of the garden, house, etc. Therefore, we respectfully request - No Children Please. Thank you and all your members again for your fantastic support which is a wonderful boost to our funds and a great boost to our sometimes flagging egos. With our kindest and most appreciative wishes; Jancis Harvey
6th July 2005 The following letter has been received from West Suffolk Voluntary Association for the Blind Dear Ian Would you please pass on our heartfelt thanks to all those MG owners and, in particular, Iceni MG Owners club members who contributed in all manner of ways toward the generous £1900 donation to the Association. The Club's unstinting support in organising the rally, including attendance at the `press call' to mark the occasion at our recent AGM is greatly appreciated. As worthwhile events like this are rare in our calendar it will feature prominently in our forthcoming members' newsletter. The money raised represents a significant contribution toward our work in West Suffolk. In practical terms this means helping the blind and visually impaired lead independent lives with dignity and self-respect. Moreover, it means the provision of help and welfare support to many individuals where, otherwise, sight loss means isolation, despair and vulnerability. With thanks yet again to the Rally organisers for all the hard work they put in to ensure such an excellent result on our behalf,
Yours sincerely 7th June 2005 Comments received on the Boadicea We now know that whatever the "Weatherman" may say, the Boadicea Run will probably have beautiful weather! We thoroughly enjoyed the Run, as we did last year. Thank you so much for arranging such a super route again, and for the impeccable organisation. Thanks to you & your helpers for another enjoyable day on the highways & byways of Suffolk. Unfortunately we couldn't bring the Sevens as they were grounded on Saturday afternoon after rainstorms of biblical proportions hit Norfolk! Looking forward to next year! My wife and I took part in our first Boadicea Run last weekend and we would like to thank you for organising what for us was a most enjoyable day. I know that masses of work go into these events all uncounted and repaid by the enjoyment of others. The route was excellent, the instructions clear, the venues well selected and the company interesting (My take home pick of the day was the biscuit and black Austin)
